A Remote Worker's Guide to Charlotte, NC

As someone who has lived in Charlotte my whole life, the Queen City sure has grown up alongside me. From thriving businesses to culture, nightlife, and plenty of cuisine options, many young professionals are flocking to this growing city. Whether you live in the area or would like to visit, here are some great spots to check out as a remote worker in Charlotte, NC.

Coworking Spaces

Hygge Coworking - With different locations around the city, Hygge is Charlotte's largest independently-owned coworking space. Open 24/7, Hygge offers memberships, day passes, meeting spaces, private offices, and more for whatever your remote working needs are. They even have a podcast studio! Work independently or collaborate with others at a Hygge location in Charlotte.

The Mill Coworking - Located in the Southend District of Charlotte, The Mill Coworking resides in one of the most happening areas of the city. With a beautifully-designed atmosphere and self-described *heads down* work environment, The Mill aims to foster distraction-free focus. Members have 24/7 access to the coworking facility, while nonmembers can take a tour and make appointments.

The Hurt Hub @ Davidson - This coworking community is located in the small college town of Davidson, about 30 minutes north of the city. In affiliation with Davidson College, this space accommodates students, alumni, and working individuals. The Hurt Hub was converted from a 1920s Cotton Mill into a brilliant space for focus and innovation.

Bonus: Visit the town of Davidson for a day! You will not be disappointed visiting spots such as New York Times-featured restaurant Kindred, local gems like The Pickled Peach or Davidson Wine Co, and the Saturday Farmers Market!

Caffeination & Concentration

Amelie’s French Bakery & Cafe - With 3 locations in Charlotte, Amelie’s is a fan favorite to grab a latte and pastry while enjoying the wonderfully-eclectic cafe decor. Your creative juices will definitely be flowing in this funky atmosphere! A true Charlotte must that you have to see for yourself.

Bonus: Amelie’s Lavender Lemonade…life-changing.

Not Just Coffee - For a more workspace-oriented coffee shop, Not Just Coffee is the place to go. They have multiple locations in the city to grab a drink and get some work done, with their Jay Street location being perfectly attached to a Hygge coworking space. The best of both worlds!

Queen City Grounds - Spend your mornings working, taking small meetings, or simply relaxing with the friendly faces at Queen City Grounds. Their flagship location is the perfect environment with an upstairs loft to focus in and outdoor seating when the weather is nice. With a creative food menu, high-quality coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere, Queen City Grounds is always a good idea.

Get Outside

The National Whitewater Center - If you are looking for the ultimate outdoor experience while in Charlotte, you must spend a day at the National Whitewater Center, located right outside of the city. From rafting and kayaking tours to rock climbing, zip-lining, and ropes courses, the Whitewater Center truly has it all!

Bonus: Get a group together for whitewater rafting when you get the chance. If your raft flips you into the water, that’s just added fun! Speaking from experience here.

Crowders Mountain - Crowders Mountain State Park is a great place to hike, or even see some brave souls repelling down the rocks. Hike up the mountain until you reach a daunting set of 336 wooden stairs to get to the top. Trust me, the view and sense of accomplishment are worth the climb!

Lake Norman State Park - Located north of the city in NC’s largest manmade lake, this state park has trails, mountain bike paths, and public swim beaches to enjoy. Take a swim, stay the night on a campground, or just get your steps in around beautiful Lake Norman. Even better if you can find a friend with a jet-ski.

Weekend HotSpots

Camp Northend - Camp Northend is a hub of food, shops, art, event venues, as well as plenty of spaces for remote working. This special collection of vendors and workplaces allows you to discover something new every time you visit. From shopping at farmers' markets to grabbing a cocktail, Camp North End truly has it all with a clear emphasis on inclusivity and community engagement!

The Mint & The Bechtler Art Museums - Located right across the street from each other in downtown Charlotte, the Mint Museum and Bechtler Museum of Modern Art are both awesome spots to connect with some of the city’s art and culture. Both have adult admission prices under $16 and show a variety of exhibits to enjoy.

South48 Complex / SouthBound - This new and noteworthy complex is perfect for any game day or night out. Southbound is a SoCal-inspired restaurant with some pretty cool neighbors. Right next to the restaurant is The Music Yard to host events, live music, and more every week. Also attached is The Studio taproom and bar, along with The Backstage Lounge, a modern speakeasy with password entry.

Whether you live in the Charlotte area, planning to visit, or are a remote worker looking for somewhere new to explore, check out these spots and more in the Queen City!
